Welcome to the MINT

Our website aims to provide a supportive, fun and safe space for all healthcare workers and those aspiring to become part of our glorious profession.

The MINT story so far.

In 2018 Lecturers at Sheffield Hallam University requested a meeting with male nursing students. They had noticed a trend with male nursing students leaving the degree before completion, and wanted to see how this could be changed.

This initial meeting consisted of 6 students and 2 members of staff, within this meeting the Men in Nursing Together was formed, initially only aspiring to support men in their studies, however, bigger plans were underfoot.

Since then the MINT has had a change in name to The Men Into Nursing Together, this was to recognise that the MINT is not only for men, instead it is a community of healthcare professionals who wish to see more people choosing the nursing industry as their career.

Since its creation the MINT team have gone into schools across Yorkshire, attending careers events and have worked with careers advisors to help show that nursing is a career that anyone regardless of gender can aspire to achieve and work towards, changing perceptions that “you can’t be a nurse, you’re a man”. We have also been fortunate enough to be featured on BBC radio 2 and local news features, show casing the aspiration that we must end stigmas attached to men in nursing, change the views of society thinking nursing is one gendered and to promote the diversity within nursing by affirming that not all men who nurse are homosexual. Since day one we have acquired members all across the globe, that share the vision of the MINT and have supported us with charity work, helping to raise money for Diabetes UK and Movember with plans to do more.

The MINT Team

It's always nice to see who is behind the scenes, we've added a picture and a small biography of the team to show some of the people behind the MINT and those working to move it forwards.
